Top Rankings Are Possible With Well Optimized Web Pages

Starting any search engine optimization campaign with anything other than keyword research is a waste of time. To be truly successful with SEO you must begin with a well researched keyword strategy. Once you’ve identified the most important keywords for your campaign, the next step is to optimize web pages for top rankings. I’ve discovered a number of techniques that work especially well for on page optimization.

There are a number of areas to focus on when thinking about on page optimization. The most important factors include meta tags, load speed, and URLs. Although some of these may seem obvious to those of you who have spent just a little time learning about search engine optimization, individuals often address these important areas incorrectly.

Meta tags provide large search engines a quick way to identify what a web page is all about. When tags are formatted correctly, search engine spiders have an easy way of evaluating content and properly ranking web pages. Although meta tags by themselves can’t significantly improve a web site’s ranking, they can definitely hurt if not properly formatted. You need to integrate additional on page optimization best practices but properly formatted meta tags are essential.

Meta tags should have a title tag which has your most important keywords and contains no more than 60 characters. This is the number of characters that can be shown on Google search results. Your description tag which is also displayed after a user does a search engine query, should be no more than 150 characters. This tag is most effective when mentioning your keywords two times.

The last meta tag worthy of description is the keyword tag. This tag is misused all too often and it may actually be hurting your search engine rankings. When using a keyword tag, focus on only a dozen of your most important and highly trafficked keywords. Search engines should know that you are an authority site and worthy of top rankings. Do your research and only include the keywords that truly matter. You can also evaluate the sites in the top positions and model their keywords as long as they are included on your web site or blog.

In addition to having your meta tags in place, the speed at which your site loads is very important. Slow loading websites are penalized by Google. What’s the big deal with a slow web site or web page you might ask? Major search engines are all about giving the browser a good user experience. If you site has a lot of broken links or loads slowly, Google considers this a bad experience and will penalize you with lower rankings. Make sure that your page loads in less than six seconds on a standard connection. There are a number of tools that can help you measure load speed.

The third and certainly one of the most important factors is URL structure. It is true that having your keyword in the URL helps but it is not the only or the most heavily weighed optimization factor by Google. There are plenty of examples of sites that include the keyword in the URL being outranked by other web sites. If you can purchase a URL that has your keyword in it though, consider it advantageous. If you are unable to do so, consider adding a folder to your main directory or page to your site that includes the keyword you want to optimize your site for. A good example would be www.sample.com/keyword. By doing so you are placing your keyword close to the root and giving it more value. Also consider a sub domain strategy.

When thinking about search engine optimization and embarking on your first optimization campaign, start with on page optimization. Focus your efforts on developing a web site that is easily searched and ranked with the help of the on page optimization factors we discussed. The topics we discussed including Meta tags, website load times and URL are among the most important on page optimization factors you can apply to improve your rankings.

SEO Marketing Defined

When you are ready to make an investment of time, money and effort into search engine optimization (SEO) it’s important that you set realistic goals about the results that you are expecting to see. Many people know that SEO can be extremely beneficial for an online business, however they don’t quite understand how the process works, or what they should expect.

There are many different elements of an effective search marketing campaign. With SEO, the details definitely do make a big difference, and the most successful campaigns are the ones that combine many different strategies into one cohesive plan. The key ingredient of SEO however remains to be the effective use of properly targeted keywords.

A keyword is simply the word or phrase that somebody types into a search engine to perform a query. With SEO, the goal is to specifically target the correct keywords, the ones that are popular without being overly competitive. These keywords will allow you to match your market, while also ensuring you will have a chance to rank highly. The best keywords are found through research, and the goal should be to find long tail keywords, which contain three or more words and are the best way to rank highly for specifically targeted consumers.

After creating a researched list of keywords and phrases, SEO marketing is about using those keywords in many different ways. The proper inclusion of them across a spectrum of different areas will enable your site to soar up the search engine rankings, seeing much more traffic and many more prospects and customers.

Keywords can be used in any number of different ways, starting from the beginning of the process when you may want to choose a domain name that includes some of your targeted keywords. From there, keywords can be used in individual page names, in the links that you have from one page on your site to the others and most prevalently, in the written content of the page itself.

It’s also important to note that while many people feel that “content is king” when it comes to SEO, content just for the sake of content isn’t valuable at all. Adding dozens of keyword stuffed pages to your website won’t produce results. What your site actually needs is high quality, unique and valuable content that serves a purpose beyond helping your search marketing efforts.

SEO marketing also entails work that is done off of the page’s of your website. These strategies are collectively known as offsite search engine optimization. One of the main components here is link building, which is adding more incoming links that lead to your website and its pages. The more links the better, because they help to build your reputation and credibility.

Understanding the roots of SEO marketing as mentioned above is the key to getting started with your own business and website. It’s crucial to remember to keep your expectations at a realistic level. SEO can open up the doors to a huge stream of additional revenue for your site, but as with anything else, it does require real hard work and effort. The world of SEO is extremely competitive, but with the right knowledge and skills you can succeed.

Squidoo And HubPages: Which One Is More Google Friendly

The internet is full of social networking blogspots and communities, but two of the top out there are Hub Pages and Squidoo. Both of these social Journal networks appear to have an imbalanced advantage when it comes to placement well with the search engines. Along with Word Press, Ezine Articles, and of course Google Blogger, these two communities can get located almost immediately. The question is not whether they are useful forms of promotion but rather, which one lands the most effective thump?

Hub Pages is a community for writers, bloggers, or someone wanting to share something interesting with the written word. Your blogs at Hub Pages are recognized as hubs. You can choose from unique modules to enhance the appearance and creativity of your hubs. Hub Pages allows you to insert your adsense, amazon, and Ebay ID to you hubs to make profits from anyone who clicks or purchases from your links. You can also add keywords to your hubs to make it easier for the search engines to position you.

Squidoo is also a community for authors and very similar to Hubpages. The main dissimilarity between the two is that Squidoo refers to its pages as lens. Just like Hub Pages, you can build unlimited lens on any topic while making additional income from adsense, amazon, and Ebay.

Squidoo is very Google responsive and permits you to insert up to 40 keywords to your lens to boost your search engine traffic. As you can witness, these two powerhouse, high pr social communities share many similar characteristics; So what are the dissimilarities?

The differences start with the earnings from your proceeds modules. Squidoo has a joint earning policy which shares the entire income between the whole Squidoo community depending on the status of your lens. The higher your lens rank, the larger portion of the pay you collect. Hub Pages on the other hand allows you to keep 100% of your earnings from adsense, amazon, and Ebay.

Another difference are the rules and policies. Hub pages is extremely strict on self endorsement or over advertising of affiliate products. They will close your account quickly if your intent are to only offer content for the singular purpose of spamming. Squidoo also discourages spammers, but they are more engaging to internet marketers who are interested in creating lens to promote their affiliate products or services. I guess you can say that Squidoo gives you a wider freedom of speech. Hub Pages furthermore does not allow adult content.

Squidoo has recently strengthen their policies on the types of lens that they will allow. Examples of lens that use to be standard that are no longer welcome are: Lenses on adult content, medicinal miracle cures, and lenses with more than 9 links to the identical website. If you can accomplish giant squid standing (50 lenses) than these rules may be waived.

Both Squidoo and Hub Pages offer a space for like minded individuals to bring their visions, thoughts, products or artistic expressions to the World Wide Web. The question of which one packs the most effective punch in my judgment, can only be left up to each individual. I personally use both. Since both communities are without charge to enroll and free to socialize, I find it that it makes sense not to show favoritism. The decision between one over the other would be the equivalent of leaving money on the table.

A Refresher On How To Do Search Engine Optimization

With a new edition of OK to Make Money Online, we are going to look at Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO is just a fancy term for teaching Google about your website so it can send the best traffic your way and place the proper ads on your page.

Most web sites do not focus on keywords or keyword optimization. The website authors do not do the proper keyword research and so the pages and the site are not keyword optimized. Then when Google spiders the site what does it find? A whole bunch of keywords but very little uniformity, and if by accident there is some keyword uniformity, what is the keyword? Worse yet the keyword or long tail keywords don’t even pertain to the main subject of the site.

So what is a webster to do? Take a hard look at your website or blog: what is the main subject? Do you have multiple subjects? Are the subjects related? Is your visual subject different from your textual subject?

Now that you have looked over your site, what is you main topic? If your website were a dog, would it be a purebred pedigree or a mutt? If it’s a pedigree, read on. If it is a mutt, we have to fix it now. Start by breaking the site into major topics like your house, bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, etc.

After we have all your topics reduced to a few categories, we will next to build a website or blog for each one. How you do that? We will use a tool that Google supplies to the advertisers in the Adwords section of the Google website. It is called the Keyword Tool. This tool is available to anyone and is used to locate a term or keyword that has been entered in a search request. With the search request, we have a frequency and amount spent per month per keyword identified. This is how you can locate a keyword or keyword phrase.

After you have completed your research and have determined the best keyword, it is time to find a URL that will contain your new keyword. Go to Blogger and see what can find. When you find a URL with your keyword then start using your keyword on every page and in every article, including the Privacy Page and the About Page. When you have completed your first website, go on to the next and do the same till you have covered all your categories or keywords.

Take any articles that were already on your old site and rewrite them using the appropriate keyword for the article. Make sure you use your keyword or phrase in the title, opening paragraph, body and closing paragraph. Copy that article to the new website and publish it.

If you have pictures or graphics on a page, make sure you work your keyword into the picture information area of the HTML code. This will assure the spider that the picture relates to the article or keyword topic. However, be true to your readers. Some of the black hats will put up any old picture so they can imbed the keyword text. Remember, at some point you want traffic, and you want your readers back. Don’t given them trash; give then something they want to come back for.

Last, make sure not to exceed one or two uses of your keyword per one hundred article body words, or Google may flag you site for keyword stuffing and sandbox you until you correct the problem.

Review of the rules: make sure your site sticks to one topic, make sure you research your keyword or long tail keyword, and use your keywords in every article and page on your site to make money online. Then as always, get as many backlinks to your site as you can (i.e. traffic).
